Five Possible FA Cup Fourth Round Shocks

It’s once again time to dive back into the chaos of the FA Cup. The competition is really heating up as we reach the fourth round, with a lovely mix of Premier League and lower league clubs still being in the hat.

This weekend, a whole host of teams will be hoping to do what so many have done before them – spring an upset and knock a club bigger than them out.

It’s a tradition as old as time and today, we’re going to pick out five of the possible contenders.

P.S: Some are more realistic than others, but such is the magic of the cup.

Accrington vs Leeds

Accrington Stanley, who are they? Well, they could be the perfect club to make some noise in the next few days. They may be struggling in League One but with a passionate home crowd behind them, they could do some real damage here.

Leeds, on the other hand, have one big eye on their push for safety in the Premier League. In equal measure, though, if they can get past this potential banana skin, they could fancy themselves a run to Wembley.

Walsall vs Leicester

Walsall fans will tell you that they are the beating heart of lower league football in the Midlands and, in our mind, they’re right. So then, as they linger around midtable in League Two, we’re glad to see them get a big home tie here.

Leicester looked shaky at best against Gillingham and with another away day against slightly tougher opposition, we wouldn’t be surprised if Rodgers’ men fail to show up on the day.

Luton vs Grimsby

Luton Town have overcome their demons and now, they are consistently pushing for promotion to the Premier League. The fact that they’re even in the mix, candidly, is a miracle in itself.

Grimsby, on the other hand, are once again trying to venture away from relegation back to non-league football. They’re doing a better job of it than they usually do, and you can bet they’ll bring passionate travelling support to this one.

Preston vs Tottenham

Preston North End supporters rarely have cup runs to get excited about and with the play-off race being so congested, it’ll be hard for them to stand out. As such, this could – and maybe should – be a real turning point in their campaign.

Tottenham are easily the favourites here and if they can bring on a few big names off the bench, they’ll be off to the races. Alas, it’s worth noting that Portsmouth did take them to the limit in the last round.

Wrexham vs Sheffield United

The storybook ending for Wrexham this season would be a return to the Football League after so long away. Alongside that, they’re also having a dream run in the FA Cup that saw them knock out Coventry in the last round.

Sheffield United, meanwhile, are pretty much already celebrating promotion back to the Premier League. They want to be sure of that but given the advantage they have over third, they may fancy themselves to make a run late into the FA Cup this year.
