Five Clubs Who Have Made An Interesting Start In The Premier League

The Premier League season is underway and it certainly feels as if we’re back with a bang. From late goals to electric games and fans being back in the grounds, there’s so much to like about what we’ve all seen.

Today, with gameweek 3 almost upon us, we’re going to take a look at five clubs who have surprised us to start off the new campaign – for better or worse.

West Ham

The balance of having to juggle the Premier League, FA Cup and League Cup alongside the Europa League is something West Ham United will have to deal with in the coming months – but for the time being, they seem to be proving themselves in a pretty emphatic way in the league.

They saw off a tough Newcastle United side with a nice four-goal performance and then one week later, they did the same thing to Leicester City and took themselves to the top of the table in the process.

Tottenham

Many Wolves fans chose to warn Tottenham supporters about what to expect from Nuno Espirito Santo and yet, after two games, the dull as dishwater ‘Nuno ball’ appears to be paying off for Tottenham thanks to consecutive wins over Manchester City and Wolves.

Both of those sides were expected to give Spurs a hard time and at points they did, but between picking up two wins and keeping hold of Harry Kane for another season, it’s hard to picture the club having a bad campaign which feels strange after such a negative summer.

Brentford

Brentford had been tipped to go down as one of the ‘certainties’ for the drop before a ball had even been kicked, but since then, they’ve proven themselves to be a team more than capable of doing some damage at this level.

They put Arsenal to the sword on the opening night and really bullied them into submission, and then against Crystal Palace, they were somewhat unremarkable and yet still pretty professional in securing a 0-0 draw.

Manchester City

The loss to Tottenham Hotspur on the opening weekend wasn’t what the doctor ordered for Manchester City and Pep Guardiola, especially given how much excitement there has been regarding what they can accomplish this season.

Still, they fired back with a dominant five-goal display against Norwich City, which raises some serious questions about what we can expect from them. Will it be inconsistency, or will they come on strong once we hit the turn of the year like they did last time?

Arsenal

A 2-0 loss to Brentford and a 2-0 loss to Chelsea equals one thing – an insane amount of pressure on the shoulders of Mikel Arteta. He’s the man who has been tasked with steadying the ship and eventually turning things around but as of this writing, that doesn’t seem all too likely.

They did manage to batter West Bromwich Albion in the League Cup but they seriously need to buck up their ideas in the next few weeks, because if they don’t, a new manager could quite easily be in place by Christmas.
