Arsenal Set To Sack Unai Emery After Eintracht Frankfurt Loss

Arsenal have not yet qualified for the Round of 32 in the UEFA Europa League as they fell to a lethargic defeat at the hands of Eintracht Frankfurt last night.

From the poor atmosphere at the Emirates to the manner in which they were playing, it all felt like Arsenal had resigned themselves to the fact that Emery was probably going to be leaving the club.

As reported by Arsenal.com and BBC, a dull first half was sparked into action when star forward Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang was able to give them the lead.

More disappointment

Early in the second half, though, Kamada grabbed a vital equaliser for Frankfurt before also scoring what proved to be the winner not long after. Arsenal didn’t really look like they wanted to find another goal, which is perhaps an indication that they’re ready for the Emery era to come to an abrupt end.

Emery spoke about the loss during his post match press conference.

“We needed to achieve confidence here and play well. I think we improved in the first half and we improved also some things to make sure of our improvement and take the three points. But we didn’t do it all because we lost in 15 minutes the work in the first half. Again, I was speaking with the players after the first half to be consistent. We are going to continue and be positive but really we need also to win. The first for us to recover confidence is to win and to feel better above all here, at home, with our supporters here in Emirates, at home and it’s the first match we lost. But really, maybe today we deserved more but it’s the first match we lost here.”

Emery went on to discuss the constant rumors surrounding his future at the club.

The time has come?

“I am thinking about the next match and analysing that match and the Europa League, and thinking about Sunday and how we can improve and achieve that confidence with the players. The players now are a little down in their feelings, but if we continue and can achieve a performance like the first half, I think that is the way.”

While he may feel as if he’s going to be given a stay of execution, it certainly doesn’t seem as if the Arsenal board are going to offer him the same luxury. The fans are quite clearly fed up of him, and while he’s done some good during his time with the club such as their great unbeaten run in his first season and reaching the Europa League Final, it’s just gone too far downhill in the last few months.

We don’t know what the future is going to hold for him or the club, but it does feel like it’s time for Arsenal to cut their losses and move forward towards what they hope will be a much brighter future.

Their immediate focus, of course, will be on trying to get themselves in order for the trip to Carrow Road to take on Norwich City this weekend.
