The Puerto Rico Islanders played a solid match against the Los Angeles Galaxy in CONCACAF Champions League play on Wednesday night in Bayamon at the newly renovated Juan Ramón Loubriel Stadium. Despite outshooting the Galaxy 16-9 and forcing 5 solid saves from LA goalkeeper Brian Perk, the Islanders could not find a goal and the match ended in a 0-0 tie.
Despite the positive result for Puerto Rico, walking away from the match with a tie against a very good but very young Galaxy squad did not help their cause on this year’s CONCACAF campaign. After 3 games played, the Islanders sit bottom of Group 5 with only one point and a -6 goal differential.
The Islanders will next play Metapan on Thursday, September 27th at home for their final match in the group. Metapan sit 2nd in the group with 3 points and a -1 goal differential, having only played 2 matches so far. The final match for Metapan isn’t until October 25th when they host the Galaxy who sit top of the group with 7 points and a +7 goal differential thanks in part to the previous 4-0 defeat of the Islanders in LA.
