Will We See Another Famous Anfield European Night?

If you’re a fan of Liverpool Football Club, then you’re a Red through and through – which is pretty much just a fact at this point. They live and bleed for that team, even more so than they do for the national team. They claim that they aren’t English, they’re Scouse (even though a lot of them went back on that during the World Cup last summer, but let’s put a pin in that for now).

That has been particularly true this season, in which they’ve been able to carve out one of their most successful campaigns in quite some time. Jurgen Klopp has been able to build a squad that is more than capable of doing some really special things, both domestically and in European competition. There seems to be nothing that this man can’t do in charge of Liverpool: apart from, up to this point, win a major trophy.

Getting it done

It’s something that will continue to follow the German boss until he’s finally able to get over that finish line. As we look towards the end of the season, at this moment in time, it seems as if the odds are pretty good that he’ll miss out on silverware yet again.

Or will he?
Tonight will see Liverpool attempt to have one of those famous Anfield European nights yet again, as they prepare to host Barcelona on Merseyside. The Spaniards have travelled to England with a 3-0 lead that they were able to build up from the first leg, but as you can see from this report by BBC, overturning three goal deficits in this competition (at home, too) has been done before by this club.

All of the odds seem to be against them right now, especially with the confirmation that Mohamed Salah and Roberto Firmino will be missing out on the game against Barca tonight. Those two losses are enough to worry the masses, but somehow, this report from talkSPORT is enough to make fans think that Klopp is just crazy enough to pull off the unthinkable.

Why? Because he’s going to be giving Rhian Brewster, supposedly, his first senior start for the club.

What an introduction

That’s quite the baptism of fire for the young lad and while he may be incredibly talented, this is a whole new level of opposition for him. Barcelona are one of the best teams in world football, and at 19 years of age, Rhian hasn’t really had the chance to face too many clubs like this.

Perhaps this is the kind of introduction that he needs, as if he’s being thrown in at the deep end of a swimming pool. Either way, though, if the Reds can pull this off, it’ll surely go down as one of the most astonishing Champions League comebacks in recent memory.

Either way the fact that they’ve been able to make it to the final and semi finals of this legendary competition in consecutive seasons is an achievement in itself. As we’ve spoken about in the past, however, that isn’t going to be enough to appease some of the Liverpool faithful.
