When you’re stuck in a bad position or situation in many leagues all throughout the world, it can be tricky to pull yourself back out of it. LA Galaxy have certainly been in a difficult position over the course of the last few weeks, to the point where some questioned whether or not they’d be able to edge their way back into the playoff picture.
Due to how tight things are in the Western Conference, though, one win can completely turn things on their head. As reported by MLS Soccer and Sky Sports, Galaxy were able to prove that in emphatic fashion with an unbelievable 7-2 win over Sporting Kansas City.
Pushing ahead
The visitors actually took the lead through Felipe Gutierrez, leading some to believe that Galaxy could be heading on a downward spiral once again. Zlatan Ibrahimovic was able to equalise, and then in the second half, Galaxy went into a whole other dimension.
Zlatan scored twice more to complete a hat-trick, with Corona, Antuna and Lletget also chipping in with goals. Gutierrez pulled another one back but in the end, this was as comprehensive as it gets.
Unfortunately, remaining down to earth isn’t really something that Ibrahimovic is particularly good at.
“I think I am the best ever to play in MLS. And that’s without joking,” Ibrahimovic said.
“Scoring goals is easy, you just have to be like Zlatan and it’s coming,”
“I try to help the team in the best way and that is by scoring goals. I scored and I have to keep going, I have to help my team in the best way and that is to score goals and make it easier for everybody.
“It’s a great result, it was a good game.
“The result says something else but the first half was very even, we played against a good team which plays good football. In the second we were stronger and when we got the opportunities we were scoring so that was the difference.
Does anyone else hate how he talks about himself in the third person?
Remaining calm
“I think it’s easy, because he’s Zlatan. That is the reason he can be Zlatan,” head coach Guillermo Barros Schelotto said. “Big games, he appears. He appears everyday, every game, every time, but especially in the moment [his team needs him most dearly].
“That’s the reason he’s Zlatan.”
Either way, this is a fascinating development in the Western Conference’s season, to the point where it’s kind of impossible to figure out which direction this is heading in.
Galaxy are the underdogs that can beat anyone and lose to anyone in equal measure, and that’s just the way it is. Their fans seem to have come to terms with that, and now, it’s just a case of them figuring themselves out heading into the playoffs.
If they can notch up another win or two they should be in a comfortable position.
Then again, can you ever really put yourself into a comfortable position in Major League Soccer? Especially in that conference?
